Vivekananda Kendra Kanyakumari, Tamil Nadu Prant, Chennai Valmiki Nagar branch actively celebrated the International Day of Yoga 2025 through a series of programs across various institutions in Chennai, inspiring people from all walks of life to embrace the practice of yoga.
Mahila Yoga Varga at Triplicane
International Day of Yoga was celebrated in the Mahila Yoga Varga on 21st June 2025, from 10 AM to 11 AM at the Kendra Karyalaya, Triplicane. The session was led by Smt. Kavitha Akka, Sah Sanyojak, Valmiki Nagar. Women participants practiced the Common Yoga Protocol with focus and devotion. A total of 15 sisters took part in the session, reflecting the increasing enthusiasm among women for adopting yoga as a daily discipline.
Honouring Yoga Instructors by N Gopaldaas Jewellers
Adding a special touch to this year’s IDY celebrations, N Gopaldaas Jewellers, Chennai, organized a felicitation event on 22nd June 2025 to honour the dedicated yoga instructors of the city. Fifteen instructors, those associated with Vivekananda Kendra, were honoured with certificates and mementoes in appreciation of their continued service in spreading yoga awareness and discipline among the community.
Yoga Session with Siddha Varma Doctors’ Association
A significant IDY event was organized in collaboration with the Traditional Siddha Varma Doctors Welfare Association at Kamakoti Marriage Hall, Villivakkam, on 21st June. The program was presided over by Shri Vadamalai, Head of the Association and member of the Varma Research and Research Center of VK-NARDEP.
After an auspicious start with Prarthana and Tamil Thai Vaazhthu, the Common Yoga Protocol was demonstrated by Shri Viswanathan Anna, Yoga Instructor from Valmiki Nagar.
Shri Vadamalai spoke on the Ministry of AYUSH’s initiatives to popularize yoga and its holistic health benefits. A total of 35 participants, including Siddha practitioners, benefitted from the session.
Session at M.O.P. Vaishnav College for Women
The Department of Sanskrit at M.O.P. Vaishnav College for Women, Chennai, hosted a two-day yoga session on 26th and 27th June. The session was conducted by Smt. Thangalakshmi Akka, Tamil Nadu Prant Pramukh, Vivekananda Kendra. The participants learned yogic techniques that enhance concentration and inner peace. 20 students from the department took part enthusiastically.
Mass Yoga Practice at Queen Mary’s College
A grand yoga celebration took place at Queen Mary’s College, Chennai, on 14th July 2025, where 150 students actively participated in a yoga session led by Smt. Thangalakshmi akka. The session included yoga practices as well as an insightful talk on the importance of yoga in student life, highlighting its benefits for physical health, mental clarity, and emotional stability.
