Gurupurnima is one of the five Utsavas celebrated in Vivekananda Kendra. In Kendra, Omkara is revered as the Guru, and Gurupurnima is celebrated grandly by all branch centers and projects of Vivekananda Kendra across Bharat.
At the Headquarters of Vivekananda Kendra in Vivekanandapuram, Kanyakumari, Guru Purnima was celebrated with great reverence and spiritual fervour on Ashadha Purnima (10th July 2025) at Eknath Hall, Vivekanandapuram, Kanyakumari. The event witnessed the active participation of 107 members, including karyakartas and residents.
The function was graced by Mananeeya Kum. Rekha Davey Didi, Joint General Secretary of Vivekananda Rock Memorial and Vivekananda Kendra, who presided over the celebration and delivered an inspiring address.
The programme commenced with the chanting of 3 Omkars and prayer led by Smt. Sethu Lakshmi akka from the Administrative Office, setting a serene and sacred tone for the event. The welcome address was given by Smt. Sudha Thanu akka, also from the Administrative Office, who extended warm greetings to all attendees and highlighted the significance of the occasion.
As part of the spiritual offerings, the Guru Stotram was melodiously chanted by the sisters from the Administrative Office, invoking the eternal presence of the Guru and expressing devotion to the guiding spirit of the organisation.
An insightful talk was delivered by Adarneeya. Radha Didi, Secretary- Administration, Headquarters and Prant Sangatak, Tamil Nadu Prant, who spoke on the topic “Guru Purnima”. She elaborated on the spiritual essence of Omkar, its importance in daily life, and the transformative power of its chanting. She reminded the karyakartas of the profound reason why Eknath ji had emphasised Omkar as the Guru, urging them to stay rooted in this practice. Radha Didi also motivated the participants to intensify their sadhana and dedicate themselves towards the expansion and development of the headquarters activities.
Ma. Rekha didi led the chanting of Omkar for 11 times. In her presidential address, Ma. Rekha Didi further elaborated on Swami Vivekananda’s vision of temples for Omkar across the country, symbolizing the formless, universal, and all-encompassing divine presence. She stressed that it is this unique spiritual organisation—adopting Omkar as the Guru—that has enabled the widespread growth and reach of the organisation across the country and beyond. She encouraged daily morning chanting of Omkar to strengthen one’s inner discipline and connection with the Guru Tattva.
The programme concluded with the chanting of the Shanti Mantra, followed by the Kendra Prarthana led by Shri. R.C. Thanu ji, Rock Incharge of Vivekananda Rock Memorial.
