The government of India has planned originally to celebrate year-long 150th birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda from January 12, 2012 in India and abroad, while the Vivekananda Kendram, the Rock Memorial in Kanyakumari and other organizations have planned to celebrate it for one year from January 12, 2013. Consequently, now the 150th birth anniversary is being celebrated for two years from January 12, 2012 to January 12, 2014.
If India is set for celebrating 150th birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda, the Indian monk who came here 100 plus years ago and won over Americans with his charming personality and his expounding Indian philosophy, the Indian Americans in this country are not far behind.
Nivedita Raghunath Bhide, All India Vice President of Vivekananda Kendra, Kanyakumari recently visited Chicago and addressed a press conference where she spoke about the impending celebration of 150th Birth Anniversary of Swami Vivekananda.

WORKSHOP FOR TEACHERS/PARENTS
Her Holiness Swamini Pramananda, fondly known as ‘Ammaji’, a highly regarded teacher of Vedanta and a spiritual guide, visited VKV Tinsukia during first week of May 2012 and conducted workshop/spiritual retreat for teachers and parents.
विवेकानन्द केन्द्र कन्याकुमारी, राजस्थान प्रान्त द्वारा आयोजित "उठो! जागो!!" युवा प्रेरणा प्रतियोगिता २०१२ में राजस्थान के सभी महाविद्यालय से ८७९० विद्यार्थीयो ने भाग लिया। इनमें से ३६७ प्रतिभागियो ने राष्ट्र सेवा में सक्रिय भागीदारी के लिये इस पांच दिवसीय निःषुल्क "बढ़ो युवा! गढ़ो भारत!!" युवा प्रेरणा शिविर में राष्ट्रप्रहरी होने का प्रशिक्षण प्राप्त किया।
