GENERAL SECRETARY'S LETTER
Dear Sisters and Brothers,
Namaskar from the feet of Mother Bharat - Kanyakumari!
The Vivekananda Kendra Samachar for the year 2022-23 is on “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam”. From December 2022 to November, 2023, India holds the Presidency of the G20. In this era of turmoil, the whole world looks to Bharat as she alone can show the way. The world scenario today reminds us of the words of Dr. Arnold Joseph Toynbee (1889-1975) the great British historian -
It is already becoming clear that a chapter which had a Western beginning will have to have an Indian ending if it is not to end in self-destruction of the human race. At this supremely dangerous moment in human history, the only way of salvation is the ancient Hindu way.
Here we have the attitude and spirit that can make it possible for the human race to grow together in to a single family.‘
The theme that India has taken for G20 ― Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam or “One Earth · One Family · One Future” makes our role very clear. Vivekananda Kendra is the Institutional Partner in one of its verticals – ̳Civil Society 20‘, in short C20. The Kendra will organize two International Seminars on the themes of – ― Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam (May, 2023) and ―Diversity, Inclusion, Mutual Respect‖ (June, 2023). Various chaupals, samajshalas, etc are being organized in almost all states involving various organizations and institutions.
This year‘s Kendra Samachar carries a thought-provoking lead article by the former President of Vivekananda Kendra, Late Mananeeya P. Parmeswaranji (1922-2019). In celebrating “Azadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav” , the Kendra organized Sandesh Yatras in Rajasthan, Odisha and Uttar Pradesh. As always, the Samachar carries the Prant-wise report of activities to spread the message of Swami Vivekananda.
The training of first batch of Jeevanvratis started in August 1973. To commemorate it, Vivekananda Kendra has planned the Vishesh Prashikshan Year from August 2023 to July 2024 —that is, special phase-wise training of all karyakartas during the period. You are always with us to support all the activities of the Kendra. After going through this issue on the Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam , do share your observations with us. We look forward to your guidance, encouragement and support.
