Vivekananda Kendra Kanyakumari, Dakshin Prant, Tamil Nadu Vibhag, Madurai Brach, organized Pongal Celebrations in Samskarvargas on 14th January, 2024. A total of 44 Samskarvarga children enthusiastically participated in the celebrations.

Makar Sankranti is a lively festival celebrated widely across Bharat, with various names like Makar Sankranti, Pongal, Lohri, Bihu, etc. While traditions and customs vary across regions, the essence of the festival revolves around the transition of the Sun into the zodiac sign of Capricorn (Makara), marking the culmination of the winter season. In Tamil Nadu, this festival is celebrated as Pongal.

Pongal was celebrated in Samskar Vargas at two locations: Balaji Nagar and TVS Nagar. During the celebration, the children were encouraged to dress in traditional attire. Traditional games such as Kabadi, Uriyadi (Pot Breaking Game), and tug-of-war were conducted. Sri. Senthil Anna delivered a speech on the significance of Pongal, explaining how it is celebrated in Tamil Nadu and other parts of Bharat. The participants showed great enthusiasm and actively took part in the event. A total of 33 participants in TVS Nagar and 11 participants in Balaji Nagar attended the celebration. Sakkarai Pongal was distributed as prasad to all the participants.
