As part of the global observance of the International Day of Yoga 2025, Vivekananda Kendra Kanyakumari, Tamil Nadu Prant, Valmiki Nagar Chennai Branch organised a vibrant and spiritually enriching yoga session at Samadhi Yoga Sewana, Makola, Sri Lanka on 21st June 2025, from 6:30 AM to 8:00 AM.
The celebration aimed to deepen the understanding of yoga as a unifying force for personal well-being and collective harmony, in alignment with this year’s theme, “Yoga for One Earth, One Health.”
A total of 70 participants, primarily regular practitioners of Samadhi Yoga Sewana, gathered at the venue to perform the Common Yoga Protocol (CYP) as prescribed by the Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India. The session was guided live via online platform by yoga instructors from Valmiki Nagar Branch, Chennai. Loosening Exercises led by Kendra Karyakartha Kum. Akshaya Padmanabhan, Yogasanas by Kendra Karyakartha Shri. Viswanathans. Relaxation and Pranayama practices were conducted by Smt. Kavitha, Sah Sanyojak, Valmiki Nagar Branch.
The participants followed the session with great enthusiasm, maintaining synchrony and focus throughout.
Following the session, Shri. Balasubramanian Ji, Prant Toli Sadasya, Tamil Nadu, Vivekananda Kendra Kanyakumari addressed the participants with an insightful talk on the significance of June 21st as International Day of Yoga and the timeless wisdom of yoga and meditation in India and Sri Lanka.
He emphasized the multidimensional healing aspects of yoga—physical, psychological, and intellectual—and how such practices enhance not only personal well-being but also foster harmonious societal relationships. He encouraged everyone to take a personal sankalpa (resolution) to continue the daily practice of yoga, stressing that physical well-being is a foundation for living a life of good actions and service.
The session concluded with the chanting of Patanjali Vandana and the Shanti Mantra, resonating peace and unity among the participants.
Shri. Thilakaratne ji from Samadhi Yoga Sewana expressed his heartfelt gratitude to Vivekananda Kendra for organising and guiding the event. Following his remarks, all participants also shared their sincere appreciation for the meaningful celebration.
This collaborative celebration across borders reflects the spirit of universal brotherhood through yoga and stands as a testimony to the cultural and spiritual ties between India and Sri Lanka.
