INSPIRING INCIDENTS (from our balwadi schools):
1. S. Thangapushpam, Kalanthapanai, Tirunelveli District:

Smt. Bhuvaneswari from Kavalkinaru has spent lots of money on her daughter’s illness, yet when she saw me she not only contributed her share of Kendra’s donation but she too accompanied me to other houses in the village. She could forget her worries in helping a good cause.

2. T. Nisha Nanthini/M. Sundari, Thattarmadam, Tirunelveli District:

When we were on a home visit, Maharasi a crèche child received us with courtesy, offered us water and pressed us to stay for lunch. All these acts were beyond her years; it touched us deeply.

3. M. Selvi, Kapaliparai, Tirunelveli District:

M. Ganesh Ram a crèche child was 4 years old when he entered the crèche. But he could not utter a few words or even call for his mother or his father. But within two months of his joining the crèche, moving with other children, he found his voice and now he can speak clearly and intelligently. Now he sings well also. This the effect of the peer group on him.

4. V. Janakipushpam, Valliyoor, Tirunelveli District:

One crèche child, now a grown up women, married and settled in far away Trichy called me on the telephone one day. She remembers her childhood days in the crèche and got my telephone number in a village festival were Kendra’s opened a book sales counter. The girl Subbulakshmi recounted her happy days in the crèche and I too remembered her childish pranks. It was happy remembrance though only through the telephone.

5. R. Reginal, Thengamputhoor, Kanyakumari District:

On the birthday of Sri Kamaraj I went to the local Government high school; The children who, long back, have studied in my crèche participated in various competitions held on the occasion. The Headmaster asked me to distribute the prizes. I was very happy to give away the prizes to many of my former students.

Another former student Radhakrishnan is now working in the Postal department; he came to Kendra crèche to celebrate his birthday amidst the students; the promotion in his job was another happy occasion for all of us.

6. S. Kavitha, Kannambivilai, Kanyakumari district:

There was a death in a house near the crèche. We made the children keep quiet until the body was removed. However lunch was prepared; Baby Sivachasmi asked us. “Today we have not studied anything, we have not played games, but eating lunch is not skipped”. All the children echoed her thoughts. We explained to the children, that we will have to respect the feelings of the community and keep quiet when there is a death.

7. K. Ilavarasi, Mandala Manickam, Ramanathapuram District:

One day Kumar, a guardian of Thirumurugan, a crèche child, came to meet me. Thirumurugan is 4 years old and the elementary school teacher refused to admit him in the primary class. But then Sri Kumar told the teacher that Thirumurugan is a product of Kendra crèche; The teacher asked him to recite some poems and ditties; on his excellent response, the teacher commented that Kendra crèche children can be directly admitted to the second standard”. In our school in all functions our students from Kendra crèche are invited to render songs” she said. Ilavarasi was very happy to listen to this.
