Sri Rama – the legendary hero of the epic Ramayana is the protagonist of “Ramayana Darshanam” – the proposed pictorial exhibition at Vivekanandapuram, Kanyakumari to be built by Vivekananda Kendra.
The Ramayana and Bharat:
The whole of the Bharat Punya Bhoomi reveres the Ramayana. Every Indian language has the Ramayana as the best literary work. The characters of the Ramayana, Sri Rama, Sri Bharata, Lakshmana and Hanuman have been idolized by the India people. Sri Rama, Sita and Hanuman have been constant companions of our people through their joyous and sorrowful occasions of life. The story of Rama – Ramayana – which was at Valmiki’s time a Kavikriti (Poet’s work) has now become our Prakriti (a natural element). Swami Vivekananda said - “Rama and Sita are the ideals of Indian nation”. Mahatma Gandhi had said – “Sri Rama could be honoured by every Indian”.
The Ramayana and Tamilnadu:
Valmiki himself has referred to Tamilnadu in the epic Ramayana. The place where Tamaraparini River meets the sea is described in it as a beautiful location. Mahendra Parvat and Maruthuva Malai herbal hill, located around Kanyakumari are also part of Ramayana legend. Suchindram and Agatheeswaranam towns very near to Kanyakumari were visited by Atri, Anusuya and Agastya, all saints revered by Sri Rama. Vivekananda Kendra wishes to commemorate these events and places by establishing a beautiful pictorial exhibition Ramayana Darshanam with 108 panels picturising all aspects of the inspiring epic. It also proposes to construct a Bharat Mata Mandir along with it. (Colorful elevation with design details can be seen in the attached brochure.)
