This month’s newsletter is short as we are having a separate letter for our ‘Green Rameswaram’ project.

This month Tenali Raman is expressing his wisdom in the field of ‘Industry and Environment’. In our happenings section, we have covered training on Bio-manure, Terrace gardening, Shelter and Bio-methanation plant. Our Green Health Home which gives herbal medicines continues to attract patients although Vivekananda Kendra is having a regular allopathic dispensary in the campus.

This month’s newsletter brings you the extracts from our popular book “Samagra Vikas” – Development with a Human Face. Prelude to different topics in the book is written by our colleague Shri.N.Krishnamoorthi. He has used Tenali Raman as a Mascot who describes the real education.

In our happenings section, we have a series of training programmes for Fish Amino technology, which were sponsored by NRDC, New Delhi. Inauguration of Varma camp, having overwhelming response and students coming from Colleges for internship.

This month’s newsletter brings you another beautiful signage which we have erected near Agni Teertham as part of ‘Green Rameshwaram’ initiative. The signage quotes Swami Vivekananda’s visit to Rameshwaram - “The very dust of this land has become holy to me; the very air is now to me holy; it is now the holy land, the place of pilgrimage, the teertha”.

This month’s newsletter brings you excerpts from our book “Renewable Energy: An Introduction”. Green Rameshwaram project envisions a multi-dimensional approach to the cleaning and greening of this ancient island. Today renewable energy sources and technologies for energy production from renewable sources have become important. The book explores and introduces renewable energy sources.

In our happenings section, we have workshop on Capacity building for Adaption of technology, training programme on cost effective bio-manure as well as biogas plant. In the ‘Green Rameshwaram’ project, we have tree plantation at public places by the NSS students as well as by the community, social engineering at the remote place of Dhanushkodi and different works carried out for the Revival of traditional water bodies. You will be happy to see the different stakeholders including local panchayat joining hands in revitalizing the ancient teerthams.

Mohabeer Dharmasala in Rameswar am once provided shelter to thou sands of pilg rims visiting Rameswaram -the island in Gulf of Mannar known for its spirituality , natural beauty and cultural ethos. Unfortunately, this 18th-century building fell into ruin due to lack of care and maintenance. A group of heritage enthusiasts is now giving it a facelift. "Architecturally unique with exquisite domes at the entrance, this building can be an attraction for not just pilgrims but also tourists visiting Rameswaram.
