Vivekananda Kendra Kanyakumari, Tamil Nadu Prant, Vivekananda Kendra Vidyalaya Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Kanyakumari, organized the Teacher Orientation Camp from 26th to 30th May 2025 at the school premises. The camp was conducted daily from 9 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. and saw the enthusiastic participation of 94 teachers, including 58 from VKV Kanyakumari and 36 from VKV Vallioor. The purpose of the camp was to help teachers realise their vital role as nation-builders, shaping young minds with the right values, culture, tradition, character, and vision.
The camp commenced with an inaugural session led by Mananeeya Shri Hanumantaraoji, All-India Vice President of VRM & VK. In his address, he emphasised the importance of interpersonal and intrapersonal relationships among teachers, their role in character building and instilling discipline in students, and the need to uphold traditional values, respect, and culture through education. He further highlighted the responsibility of teachers in monitoring and guiding each student’s behavioural conduct.
The first session of the day was on the theme “An Ideal Teacher” by Aadharneeya Radha Devi Didi, Admin Secretary of VRM & VK. The second session titled “The Role of Teachers in the Modern Society” was delivered by Dr. R. Ramesh ji, P.G. Assistant in Tamil, GHSS, Kannattuvilai.
On the second day, the first session was led by Mananeeya Rekha Davey Didi, All-India Joint General Secretary of VRM & VK, who spoke about Swami Vivekananda. In the second session, Dr. K.S. Ratha Krishnan ji, Assistant Professor of English, Arignar Anna College, Aralvaimozhi, addressed the challenges faced by teachers today and suggested practical solutions. The day concluded with a follow-up session on “An Ideal Teacher” by Aadharneeya Radha Didi.
The third day began with a session on the life and ideals of Mananeeya Shri Eknathji Ranade by Mananeeya Rekha Didi. This was followed by a thought-provoking session titled “From Chalkboards to Chatbots” by Sri K. Kaviarasu, Assistant Professor of English, Vivekananda College, Agasteeswaram.
On the fourth day, the sessions began with an introduction to phonetics by Sri Rajendran, Principal of Lord Jegannath B.Ed. College, Ramanadhichanputhoor. Dr. Ponnulingam, former Principal of Vivekananda College, Agasteeswaram, delivered a session on Indian culture. This was followed by Dr. R. Ramesh, who once again spoke on the role of teachers in contemporary society. The final session of the day, “The Teachers and the Society,” was conducted by Sri Neelan Mathumayan.
The final day of the camp opened with a session on historical insights from the Sangam period by Prof. Azhagesan, Assistant Professor of Tamil, Sivanthi Aditanar College, Pillaiyarpuram. This was followed by a presentation on “The New Language Lab” by Dr. K. Kaviarasu. In the third session, Dr. Rajendran elaborated on the psychology of students and the need for teachers to understand it deeply.
Meanwhile, all science teachers took part in an activity-based learning program titled “The Chhote Scientists Teacher Training,” organised by Jnana Prabodhini on 29th and 30th May. A total of twenty-two teachers from three schools participated actively and benefitted from the training.
The camp concluded with a concluding session addressed by Mananeeya Shri Hanumantaraoji. He stressed the need for teachers to impart character-oriented education and to continuously teach and assess students. He expressed hope that the concepts and values discussed during the camp would be implemented in the upcoming academic year. As part of the program, teachers also presented insights from the books ‘The Invasion That Never Was’, ‘Traditional Values’, and ‘The Great Tragedy of Partition’. Additionally, chanting of the Bhagavad Gita was taught by Aadharneeya Shri Krishnakumarji, Jeevan-vrati Karyakartha of Vivekananda Kendra enriching the spiritual dimension of the training.
