Vivekananda Kendra Kanyakumari, Dakshin Prant, Tamil Nadu Vibhag, Vivekananda Kendra Vidyalaya Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Vallioor celebrated 77th Independence Day on 15th of August 2023 at the school premises. The distinguished Chief Guest for the occasion was Sri. S. Sudhir Kanthan, the former President of the Rotary Club of Vallioor Central. Around 750 students took part in the celebration.
The program commenced at 9:30 a.m. with a prayer and Tamilthai Vazhthu. The welcome address was delivered by Selvi. Muthu Sivasankari from class X.
The highlight of the event was the hoisting of the National Flag by the Honourable Chief Guest, Sri. S. Sudhir Kanthan. This was followed by the school's choir group performing the flag song. Sri. S. Sudhir Kanthan, along with his role as the Chief Guest, also delivered the presidential address to the gathering. He shared his insights as a Rotarian and the former president of the Rotary Club Vallioor Central.
Throughout the program, the students showcased their talents through various performances, including Mass drill, Bharathanatiyam dance, a short talk on 'Freedom,' yoga demonstrations, flag dance, patriotic dance, silambam performance, Tamil drama, hoops display, and karate presentations.
Addressing the theme of 'Freedom,' Sri. Muthukrishnan, the Principal of the school, delivered a special speech, emphasizing the significance of the day. Following this, prizes were distributed to the winners of competitions that were held on Sri. Kamarajar's birth anniversary and on the Independence Day.
Concluding the event, Sri. Muthu Raja from class VII delivered the vote of thanks to the assembled audience. The program concluded with the singing of the national anthem, and as a gesture of celebration, sweets were distributed among all the students.
