Vivekananda Kendra Vidyalaya Kanyakumari (Tamil Nadu Prant) organized a program on the occasion of 11th International Day of Yoga at Swami Vivekananda Sabhagriham, Vivekanandapuram on 21st June 2025 at 8:00 a.m. A total of 840 students and Kendra Karyakartas enthusiastically participated in the celebration.
The program was anchored by Kum. Babitha, teacher at VKV. The event began with an invocation by Sri R. Manikumar, followed by a warm welcome by Kum. K. Esai Reshma.
A dynamic yoga demonstration by students and Karyakartas showcased the practical application of various āsanas. The session commenced with standing postures such as Pādrāsana, Vṛkṣāsana, Pādahastāsana, and Ardha Chakrāsana, followed by sitting and prone āsanas including Sasāṅgāsana, Vajrāsana, Bhujangāsana, and Pavanamuktāsana. Prāṇāyāma techniques like Nāḍī Śuddhi and Anuloma-Viloma were also practiced. The session was conducted by Smt. Jothi, teacher at VKV.
An insightful talk was delivered by Dr. R. Sundarakumar, who emphasized the historical relevance of Yoga, its benefits for health, focus, and longevity.
The Chief Guest, Dr. Kumaraswamy, Retired Headmaster of D.V.D. Higher Secondary School, Kottar, addressed the gathering with reflections on his personal journey with Yoga. He emphasized Yoga as an invaluable gift from India, its ancient roots, and its capacity to extend human potential—citing sages like Patañjali Maharishi and Thirumoolar Maharishi. He noted the global spread of Yoga to over 175 countries and envisioned India as a spiritual guide for the world by 2047.
The Presidential Address was delivered by Mananeeya Nivedita Didi, All-India Vice President, VRM & VK. She highlighted the spiritual and cultural vision of Yoga as presented by Swami Vivekananda and reiterated the Kendra’s commitment to promoting Yoga as a way of life, rooted in Bharatiya Samskriti. She also informed that a simple Yoga handbook will be distributed to VKV students in the upcoming academic year to lay a foundational platform. She concluded by encouraging students to continue Yoga practice sincerely and regularly.
As a gesture of gratitude, Mananeeya Nivedita Didi presented a memento to Dr. Kumaraswamy. The vote of thanks was proposed by Smt. Kalaivani, teacher at VKV, who extended heartfelt appreciation to all dignitaries, organizers, parents, students, and volunteers.
The program concluded with the Kendra Prārthanā, marking a spiritually uplifting and inspiring celebration of the International Day of Yoga.
