In celebration of the 11th International Day of Yoga, Vivekananda Kendra Kanyakumari, Tamil Nadu Prant, Vivekananda Kendra Vidyalaya (VKV) Kanyakumari organized yoga sessions in six villages where regular Samskarvargas are conducted. The sessions were held on Sunday, 22nd June 2025. The theme of this year’s IDY, “Yoga for One Earth, One Health”, echoed through every village as children actively participated in yoga demonstrations and talks on the relevance of yoga in daily life.
At Therku Kundal village, 20 children participated in the session conducted by Shri Raju Kumar, Prakalpa Vyavastha Pramukh, VKV Kanyakumari. The children practiced key asanas from the Common Yoga Protocol and listened to a short talk on yoga’s holistic benefits.
In Thamaraikulam village, Smt. Vimala Devi, a teacher at VKV Kanyakumari, led a session with 6 children, creating an intimate and engaging experience. Meanwhile, Smt. Hemalatha, also a teacher from VKV, conducted yoga for 10 children at Edaiyanvilai village, encouraging them to incorporate yoga into their daily routine.
The village of Paulkulam witnessed the participation of 17 children, guided by Smt. K.R. Ishwarya, Prakalpa IT Pramukh, who not only led the yoga session but also highlighted the connection between personal health and planetary well-being.
In Amanakanvilai village, Smt. Suyambukani, VKV teacher, conducted a yoga practice session with 8 children, while in Muhilankudieruppu, Smt. Umaselvi, Prakalpa Sah Pramukh, VKV Kanyakumari, engaged 21 children in yoga practices and conveyed the importance of discipline, focus, and health through yoga.
In all these villages, the Common Yoga Protocol was followed, and the respective teachers emphasized the importance of yoga in achieving mental clarity, emotional balance, and physical strength. The sessions were infused with the underlying message of this year’s IDY theme, “Yoga for One Earth, One Health”, linking the practice of yoga to sustainable living and global harmony.
In addition to the village activities, a Kendra Varga session was organized for the teachers of VKV Kanyakumari on 21st June 2025. The session was led by Smt. B. Anuradha, Prakalpa Samiti Sadasya, VKV Kanyakumari, and saw the participation of 42 teachers. The teachers collectively practiced yoga and discussed its role in shaping value-based education and holistic development in students.
By reaching out to rural communities and nurturing young minds through Samskarvargas, Vivekananda Kendra Vidyalaya continues to promote the essence of yoga not just as a physical exercise, but as a way of life based on the vision of oneness.
