About the Speaker: After completing his Masters in Chemistry from Delhi University in 1970, Shri Chandra Kanta Das joined the Indian Administrative Service in 1975 and worked till 1989 as Additional Deputy Commissioner and Deputy Commissioner in various places of Assam and Meghalaya. He also worked as Chairman, ASEB; Chairman, Assam Board of Revenue and Chairman, Assam Administrative Tribunal. At present, he is the Convenor of the Policy Working Group, Bharatiya Janata Party, Assam. From 1989 till his retirement in December, 2008, he served in several capacities including Secretary, Commissioner, Principal Secretary and Additional Chief Secretary to the Government of Assam. His experience in varied fields especially the departments of Home and Political, Panchayat and Rural Development, Forest and Agriculture, has given him an in-depth exposure to the land policy and revenue of Assam, its implementation, ground reality and the task ahead.
The Theme: Problem of Land in Assam Today – this will be the fourteenth and the last lecture of the series on various dimensions of Land Policy and Land Revenue Systems of Assam. In this talk, Sri CK Das will attempt to throw light on the extent and seriousness of the land problem in Assam and the steps which can and should be taken by the State Government as well as the people of Assam.
