The north Karnataka unit of the Vivekananda Sardhashati Samaroh Samiti has organised programmes to mark the 150th birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda. Sudhir Ghorpade, associate regional convenor, and Vinayak Talageri, convenor of Dharwad district unit told presspersons here on Saturday that they would continue till January 2014. Processions would be taken out at district centres on January 12, 2013, and it would be followed by ‘Suryanamaskar Yajna’ on February 18.

Swami Vivekananda’s 150th birth anniversary was celebrated as Sankalpa Dina at Saraswati School here on Tuesday.

Revanasiddappa Jalade, school committee secretary said that cultural programmes and personality development workshops would be organised throughout the year as part of the celebrations.

Krishna Murthy, resource person, spoke about Swami Vivekananda’s speech at the parliament of religions in Chicago. — Special Correspondent
