Mr.Kalam inaugurated the “Green pilgrimage to Rameswarm,” a comprehensive project of the Vivekananda Kendra under its Natural Resources Development Project (NARDEP) to provide green and hygienic pilgrimage to about 1.2 crore pilgrims who visit the island every year.
Mr.Kalam distributed saplings and unveiled a vision document of the project.
The Vivekananda Kendra distributed 500 saplings to the pilgrims and also to the local people to be planted in the island in the participatory programme.
Former president A.P.J. Abdul Kalam would inaugurate on January 28, “Green pilgrimage to Rameswarm”, a comprehensive project aimed at providing a green and hygienic pilgrimage to about 1.2 crore people visiting the holy island every year.
At a brief function to be held at Satsang Bhavan in Rameswaram, Dr. Kalam would distribute tree saplings, deliver a keynote address and unveil a vision document of the project, implemented by Vivekananda Kendra under its Natural Resources Development Project (Nardep).
The north Karnataka unit of the Vivekananda Sardhashati Samaroh Samiti has organised programmes to mark the 150th birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda. Sudhir Ghorpade, associate regional convenor, and Vinayak Talageri, convenor of Dharwad district unit told presspersons here on Saturday that they would continue till January 2014. Processions would be taken out at district centres on January 12, 2013, and it would be followed by ‘Suryanamaskar Yajna’ on February 18.
The youth of the country should imbibe Swami Vivekananda’s ideals, Vishwa Hindu Parishad district president and Vivekananda Utsava Samiti leader, K. Ramudu, said on Tuesday.
Swami Vivekananda’s 150th jayanti festivities will be celebrated all over the country from January 2013 to December 2013, he said in the ‘Sankalp Divas’ programme organised at Saraswathi Vidya Mandir at Rajampet on Tuesday.

Revanasiddappa Jalade, school committee secretary said that cultural programmes and personality development workshops would be organised throughout the year as part of the celebrations.
